The challenge
A critical ETF reconciliation app ran on PowerBuilder and Oracle, which had reached end of life.
Business logic was locked inside the UI, and skilled PowerBuilder developers were scarce.
Slow with large datasets, desktop-bound, and incompatible with cloud and security goals.
What was built
Rebuilt the UI as a React web application on a PaaS cloud environment.
Moved business logic out of the UI and refactored Oracle stored procedures into Java API services.
Added an asynchronous engine for fast viewing and bulk export of large data volumes.
Introduced role-based security, microservices, CI/CD pipelines and GitHub-based workflows.
- 40–50%operational efficiency gain
- Full parityfunctional parity with the legacy app
- PDF · Excel · CSVhigh-volume bulk export
Outcomes
- A 40–50% operational efficiency gain from a responsive UI and faster data handling.
- Lower maintenance and infrastructure costs, and stronger security through role-based access.
- New features can now ship quickly, and the simpler web interface makes onboarding faster.
